World Class Quail Hunting & World Class Hosts
Since hearing about George Hi years ago over a post-hunt conversation about best the quail hunting in the US at another lodge, this experience has been at the top of my list. I am thankful I can now confirm it outperformed all expectations - from the quality of the quail, dogs (especially the cocker spaniels), guides, staff, food and accommodations coupled with their appreciation for preservation and history. Mrs Nancy, Doyle and Zach made the experience for us and went above and beyond. Zach should be an Orvis Guide of the Year and I have nominated him as such. At the conclusion of our visit Mr DuBose himself welcomed us - his stewardship is noteworthy and appreciated for such a historical piece of land. We will be returning annually if not more.
My son and I return to George Hi every year. The hospitality accommodations, food, guides and dogs are superb. The fields provide variety from beautiful pines to grasses. This year we saw five large coveys and had plenty of opportunities to shoot.
I've had the unique pleasure of hunting at George Hi Plantation many times over the last 20+ years and can honestly state every trip is better than the last. The property is magnificent, accommodations are excellent, meals are superb, guides are all experienced, courteous and extremely safety conscious, dogs are always under control and a pure pleasure to observe, and the birds fly very well. George Hi doesn't rest on its laurels. The owners continue to work to improve all aspects of the operation on a continuous basis. Their hard work shows and continues to yield fantastic results. Friends who have accompanied me to George Hi or experienced it independently all agree with this opinion.
My husband and I just came back from a fabulous weekend hunting quail with friends. My first trip was 2 years ago with a great group of GRITS women and 3 of us just had a reunion, bringing our husbands. Dan and Penny set the tone of grace, care, excellence that is echoed throughout the whole experience. The guides, the cooks, the housekeepers, the dogs, the fields, the lodge are all first rate. We're booking our slots for next year so we don't miss out as the word spreads. George Hi is the place to go if you enjoy excellence and warmth in the field and in the lodge.
My friends and I are heading back to Georgie Hi. It will be the 3RD trip this year for 2 of us, 4th overall. Repeat business is the best testimonial that we could ever provide for any hunting trip.
Lots to recommend, but #1 is the quality of the quail; they fly hard and far, not at all like typical shooting preserve birds. I hunted wild quail in NJ years ago, when we had them, and I believe that the birds at George Hi rival those.
The staff and accommodations are great but we can get that at almost any lodge; we make the trip to hunt, we do that at George Hi.
